A Guide To Television News Stations
Watching television news programs is a great way to learn about what is going on in the world, and there are many televisions news stations that viewers can choose from. News on television can also be extremely subject-specific, and there are also both local television news channels, international television news channels and specialty television news channels on offer.
Television news programs deliver news in television format, and television news broadcasting has been around since 1948 when the first television news program, CBS TV News, debuted. Both television and news have come a far way since then, and today the television news industry is one of the giants of broadcasting.
There are two basic ways in which news on television is reported, and these comprise the network news channels and programs as well as the cable news channels. Network news channels broadcast continuous news bulletins throughout the day and night as do the cable news channels, although the cable channels’ broadcasting methods differ from those of the network channels. The network news programs comprise both regularly scheduled news programs, also known as news bulletins, and unscheduled news flashes that are used to report breaking news of great importance.
Television news stations and programs range from those with extremely wide coverage to those that have a very narrow focus. Regularly scheduled news programs generally have a wide focus and will cover international, national, regional and local news, with an emphasis on regional and local stories. Local television news programs will also include ancillary information covering topics like weather and sports and will not be limited to covering one type of subject. Television news channels, on the other hand, will concentrate more on international and national news items but will also include coverage on ancillary subjects. An example of a local news television station with regularly scheduled bulletins is Fox, while examples of cable and network dedicated news channels are MSNBC and BBC World News respectively.
Television news channels can also be divided into those that report mainstream news, like CNN, and those that report subject-specific news. ESPNews and Fox Business Network are examples of the subject-specific television news reporting style, and, while Fox Business Network covers economic, financial and business news, ESPNews covers sports.
The Internet television, international television and reporting services launched by foreign countries like, for instance, Japanese television and European television, are further sources of television news coverage.
