Summer Sports Camps Help Exposure
Young athletes can attend summer sport camps all across the United States to improve their skills and gain exposure to college recruiters. Andrew Beinbreck of TheSportsTV.com states “Some camps are focused on getting an athlete exposure, while others specialize in giving them instruction to take them to the next level in a given sport.” Parents must make sure the sports camp is the right one to attain the athletes’ goals.
A student athlete interested in playing a sport or even leisure sports at a particular college can look into attending a summer sport camp at that school. The university coach for that sport, such as volleyball or softball, will be able to see them play. The coach may or not be involved in the instruction; however, the player will definitely be seen by the coaching staff at the school. The student can learn what is expected in playing at the college level.
Beinbreck warns to use caution about sports camps featuring professional athletes, as they are not always the best teachers. Sports summer camps at colleges and universities are a great way to gain exposure while improving playing skills. Many high school athletes will enjoy the experience of being on a college campus, as well as the training received in the sports summer camp.
Young athletes can go online or call universities they are interested in attending to learn if they offer summer sports camps. A high school softball player can sign up for camp or day clinics at Texas A&M at Kingsville. A specific skill such as pitching may be emphasized at a particular camp; some clinics cover practice in all skills. Volleyball summer camps are offered also at Texas A&M Kingsville in which housing is provided if necessary. Players can choose from a general skills camp or an advanced skills camp that covers specific positions.
Student athletes can gain exposure from summer sports camps. Parents and children should research potential sport camps and make sure they will provide the proper coaching and recruitment that is desired. High school coaches are a good source of information in regard to finding a worthwhile camp. Campers can ask about the coach to student ratio at the camp; this can be an indicator of the quality of the camp. Sport camps should provide references also of former participants if one has further questions.
