A Guide To The Best In Movies

Determining the best movies, best actor, best actress or best director can be tricky. Two possible ways to decide the best in movies and the industry are based on earnings or awards. Let’s review both options and reveal the best in the movie and picture business.

There are many new movies in movie theaters including Hindi movies, but which ones are “the best?” Let’s take a look at the “best movies” category. If determining “the best movie” based on biggest profit, than James Cameron’s “Avatar” wins. To date, “Avatar” has grossed over $2 billion surpassing the previous leader, another Cameron flick, “Titanic.” If determining the “best movie” based on awards than the winner is the 2003 film “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.” “Lord of the Rings” was able to be nominated for a wide range of awards due to the extensive use of visual effects, costumes, and other elements needed to create a world that does not already exist.

When determining the “best actor” based on biggest salary then, in 2009, Harrison Ford holds the title. Earning about $65 million, Ford’s paycheck came exclusively from his portion of the profits from “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” which grossed $786 million worldwide. If determining the “best actor” based on awards than the leading man here is Denzel Washington. The legendary actor has earned over 30 movie acting related awards in the years he has been on the big screen.

Next, for “best actress” Angelina Jolie is “the best” based on salary. In 2009 she made a reported $27 million. Her film “Wanted” earned $341 worldwide. Currently, the star is working on “Salt” and received a nice paycheck upfront for this CIA-themed movie. There’s no competition for “best actress” if determining based on awards. Meryl Streep has earned more than 60 movie acting related awards and at age 60, she is working on 3 more movies.

“Best director” winner based on 2009 salary is George Lucas earning $170 million. The king of sequels was a part of Harrison Ford’s big earnings, as Lucas was a writer and producer of the fourth Indiana Jones movie. But when it comes to being the best based on statuettes, the category is a tie between Steven Spielberg and Clint Eastwood. Both highly accomplished men have earned over 50 director or best picture related awards.
