Fly Fishing

Fly Fishing Rods And Supplies

Fly fishing is an extremely popular type of fishing, and a whole industry has developed around supplying the angler with fly fishing rods, fly fishing reels and fly fishing flies. The rules of fly fishing are also changing as more and more types of fish are being considered fly fish and fair game for those who indulge in fly fishing.

A fly fisherman is only as good as his fly fishing tackle, and it is therefore important that he buy the types of fly fishing rods, reels, flies and lines that will be most suitable for the particular type of fly fishing he wants to indulge in.

A simple definition of fly fishing is fishing with the assistance of flies, which are types of fishing lures made to float lightly on or just below the surface of the water that fool fish into thinking they’re the fish’s natural prey. The types of fishing rods, reels and lines that are used for fly fishing are highly specialized and different from those used for other fishing styles. Fly fishing tackle can, furthermore, be divided into categories based on what types of fly fish are going to be pursued and whether the fishing will take place in freshwater or saltwater. Freshwater fly fishing styles can further be divided into the warm water, cool water and cold water styles and fly fishing can take place in streams, rivers or lakes.

Most fly fishing flies are made out of either natural or synthetic substances but must all be both light and attractive to that type of fly fish they are going to be used to catch. Fishing flies have been in use for thousands of years but are now so specialized that the fishing fly used to catch pike will be different from the fishing fly used to catch carp. Fly fishing reels are flexible and light, and fly fishing line is tapered and generally covered with plastic. There are also rules that prescribe how fly fishing lines are to be knotted, and these rules concern knot lubrication, knot sealing and knot trimming.

For fly fishermanFishing boats are generally not needed by the fisherman as fly fishing is done while wading in the water or standing on the bank. Fly fisherman may want to take an interest in taxidermy, though, as they may wish to preserve some of their larger catches.
