Muscle Exercise
Exercises for Muscle Building
There are three main types of activities that can be used as exercise for muscle building. For an activity to count as a muscle exercise it does not need to be a traditional strength training exercise, it can also be one of many isometric or cardiovascular exercise programs that will also work as muscle exercises.
Traditional exercises for muscle building include strength training classics such as sit-ups, pull-ups, and weight lifting. While these exercises are guaranteed to build muscle, they are not particularly efficient at burning calories, and going much beyond sit-ups and pull-ups requires equipment that you can only find at a gym. If you do begin a strength training program, you may want to book a session with a personal trainer, who can advise you on form and what exercises will be of most benefit to you.
One way to increase strength training without hitting the gym is with isometric exercises. These exercises consists of contracting and releasing specific muscles repeatedly to strengthen them. They can be performed almost anywhere, and require no equipment. A quick internet search will lead you to dozens of sites that detail what exercises you can do to target specific parts of your body.
Finally, there is cardiovascular exercise such as running, cycling, or swimming. Cardiovascular exercise is good at helping you build long lean muscles while also increasing your endurance, heart health, and lung function. These exercises won’t help you build bulky ropey muscles, but they will help you tone, and decrease body fat so that the muscle you do have is more obvious.
The best muscle building program includes all three kinds of exercises. You can increase your daily calorie burn by improvising isometric exercises while at the office, in your car, or standing in line at the grocery store. You can increase your cardiovascular fitness and build muscle with regular aerobic exercise, and then you can add bulk muscle with a program of strength training exercises.
It is also important to remember that without a proper diet, exercise alone won’t get you the results you want. While you will certainly gain strength if you follow a proper exercise program, without attention to diet, your new muscles will remain hidden under a layer of fat.
